SUTTON Harriers have been busy with runners competing in the North Midlands and Booth Decorator's leagues.
A small team of athletes headed to Corby’s West Glebe Park, where Jake Lacey got the team off to an excellent start by finishing 10th in the under-13 boy’s race.
Danielle Ceney finished 27th after a strong finish in the under-15 girl’s race, with Bethany Ceney following in her elder sister’s footsteps by finishing a creditable 19th in the under-13 girl’s event.
Jordon Mitchell showed he wasn’t frightened to get out the comfort zone by finishing a gallant 39th in the under-15 boys category.
Abbie Wells ran in her first North Midlands cross-country, finishing in 17th overall and fifth girl in the under-11’s fun run.
In the senior races, Fran Meakin was showing she’s about to return to form after a year of injury and illness by taking 18th position in a very competitive ladies’ race.
The men were led home by Dean Cross (48th), closely followed by Paul Whittingham (54th), with Nick Luke showing that he was returning to form in 79th.
They were backed up by Mick Davies (154th) and Andy Mitchell (180th).This leaves the veteran men in a creditable fourth place in the league with two fixtures left, the next at Mansfield’s Berry Hill Park on 29th November.

IN the Booth Decorators’ cross country race at a wet Chaddesden Park in Derby, swirling winds and heavy rain made the 4.1-mile course tougher than ever.
The race included several deep water hazards, with Sutton enjoying a good turnout of 23 runners taking part.
There were 13 men and 10 women, with the ladies running well to take second place on the day, which was good enough to take them into the overall lead after two events.
Tracey Homes, Val Naylor and Lindsey Limb filled the team places, while the men were a down from last year, finishing in seventh, giving the team a combined fifth place.
Notable performances in the men’s race included Steve Williams and Geoff Brown, who both beat their previous year’s times, along with Dan Bailey, who finished just outside the top 20.
