WELL-KNOWN car dealer Lucas of Mansfield has gone into administration - the latest victim of the so-called credit crunch.
Bosses say a recent drop in cars sales has left them with no alternative but to call in administrators.

It operated Subaru, Proton, Daihatsu, and Isuzu dealerships from premises on Nottingham Road, employing 27 people.

The business was founded in 1918 by Reginald Lucas, a talented TT rider.

Nick Edwards, one of the administrators from Nottingham Business Advisers Cooper Parry, said "It is very sad when an old established business fails.

"We are however keeping the showrooms open in the short term to sell its remaining stock of cars."

You're talking about people's livelihoods Johnny, what an idiotic comment.

One was talking of the car not the workforce. One does feel sorry for a workforce being made redundant of course but one does not give a fly about the Subaru being silenced.

what a muppet! i dont mean to be funny but this johnny_kwango obviously doesnt know what hes talking about. I bought my proton compact from lucas's its a 98 which i bought second hand and never had any problems with, oh, i had to change the standard battery last year. Proton were designed to be a relatively cheap n cheerful car n id say the compact (and definately the satria) outdo any like for like corsa/punto etc, for the price, fantastic quality. plus lucas's service was very good, in fact, im dissapointed iv read this because i was just thinking about goin there to look for a newer model, proton satria neo. shame really.
