EATING light bulbs, letting audience members staple things to him and a very unusual party trick with a vacuum cleaner are all in a day's work for Circus of Horrors star Captain Dan.
The 49-year-old, who stands just 4ft 1ins tall, is visiting Mansfield Palace Theatre on 13th November for the brand new Apocalypse in the Asylum show, also starring 'the world's stretchiest man' Gary Stretch as well a host of other talented acrobats, performers and stunt artists.

Captain Dan, who hit national headlines after an accident involving super glue and his vacuum cleaner, explained that this was his seventh tour with the troupe.

He says audiences could expect an entertaining show –– as long as they do not scare too easily.

"We haven't been to Mansfield before so it will be something they won't have seen. We get a lot of goths in the audience, but there are all sorts –– I've even seen grannies in the audience!" he said.

Dan explained that many of the cast have a circus background but the show itself was nothing like a normal visit to the big top.

"It's nothing like it," he said. "The show's got a story line to it and we've got a live band too, it's a totally different thing."

The story is set in an anarchic 19th Century institution in France when side show owner, Dr Haze, buys the mad house to present his new show to rival the Operetta and soon to be Dance Hall of Decadence 'Moulin Rouge'.

After liberating the lunatics and slaughtering the evil wardens he turns the inmates into his performers to present his new spectacular –– which ends in an apocalyptic nightmare.

And Apocalypse in the Asylum is going to show Dan –– who describes himself as a pipe and slippers type away from the stage –– in quite a different light from his last visit to the town.

He said: "I was in Mansfield about two years ago for pantomime –– Snow White –– I was Dopey.

"It was quite hard work because I swear quite a lot and I can't do that for pantomime, but I can swear as much as I want when I'm in Circus of Horrors."

Fantastic . . . I'm sure if he took a short walk into Mansfield Market Place, the Four Seasons (or Field Mill) he'll come across many people with similar tendancies to himself.

I wonder if he likes those energy saving bulbs and I wonder if he will need the councils permission to dispose of them in the natural manner?
