COMEDIAN Adrian Edmondson will top the bill at Mansfield's Intake Leisure Club when he brings his band The Bad Shepherds to town on Friday (19th December) for a night of 'folked up' punk rock.
Edmondson shot to fame in the 80s and 90s in iconic comedies The Young Ones and Bottom and more recently appeared as Abra Durant in the BBC hospital-based soap opera, Holby City.

He told Chad that, unlike his previous group Bad News –– a heavy metal spoof –– he was deadly serious about The Bad Shepherds, which he says is about his love for the punk and folk rock genres.

"I was 19 in '76 when punk arrived," he said. "Those songs were the soundtrack to my life as I went through university and started pretending to be a comedian. I loved the noise, the faces and the attitude.

"I also love folk music, I love the noise –– at its live best it's the most exciting music to be in the same room with. It occurred to me that punk was the folk music of its day. I decided to form a band to reflect that."

Adrian will be joined on stage by former Fairport Convention and Jethro Tull guitarist Martin Allcock, veteran folk rocker Troy Donockley and vocalist/violinist Eimear Bradley.

The group take on The Clash's I Fought The Law and London Calling Teenage Kicks, God Save The Queen and more.

Tickets for the 19th December event at the Kirkland Avenue venue cost £15. For more information visit www.intakeleisure.co.uk.
